Yes, your son or daughter's heart started beating at about 3 weeks after conception. By six weeks after conception, your baby also has tiny fingers and recordable brain waves. For information on your baby's development, see:

I have some great pamphlets on prenatal development, as well as some lifesize models of 12-week-old unborn babies. I'd be glad to send them to you if you'd like--just email me your information. (I mail them in plain packaging, to protect your privacy--especially if you haven't told anyone you are pregnant yet!)

Congratulations!

p.s. If you'd like to see your baby's heartbeat, you can get a free, cconfidential ultrasound at many pregnancy care centers. You can find one near you by calling 1-800-395-HELP or visiting:

Keep in mind that with a regular ultrasound machine, you might not be able to see the heartbeat until around 7 weeks (because your baby is still little!). With a vaginal ultrasound, the heartbeat may be able to be seen a little earlier.

you will get a heart beat at 36-40 days with a transvaginal ultrasound. however, in some cases the cardiac activity may be delayed till 56 days. the development is not that you will be able to differntiate on ultrasound as arms and legs, so dont bother with the details. you will be able to see gestational sac though if you are that keen. good luck.

there is a heart beat but you wont' be able to hear it with anything. you should be able to see it on an ultra sound tho. You can sometimes hear it as early as 10 weeks at the dr's.
go to babycenter.com and you can use the pregnancy calender and it tells you what's happening and how the baby is growing.
I seen my son't at 7 weeks with ultra sound, so amazing.
Congrats!

usually the only time you can hear a heartbeat that early is by an ultrasound , otherwise wait till your 4mth check up and hear it through the doctors machine.

My wife went to the Dr last month, he took me in to talk to me, he said my wife was 10 weeks pregnant, I told him that was impossible. He took me in and showed me the ultra-sound heart beat, I told him it was a radar anomaly, ya know, like birds on radar or something, and that I've been on "WEB MD" for 2 days and he doesn't know what he's talking about. My wife wants me in a mental institution.
