Psilocybin mushrooms are almost completely harmless. People have been using them to alter their perceptions of reality for hundreds if not thousands of years with no adverse effects ever noted. It is almost impossible to hurt yourself by using this drug.

Lycergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD) is actaully ALSO a fungus, which grows naturally on rye. LSD, however, is just a little bit more toxic than psilocybin (though not much) and can cause some very minor physical side effects (like muscle cramps).

The most important factor to consider when judging the safety of mind altering chemicals is the environment. These drugs should never be used without supervision and a safe place to allow the effects to wear off.

I remember acid feeling harsher, feeling totally out of control and negative.
For me mushrooms were more positive, 'warmer', and I Iaughed a lot, uncontrollably - which was not fun.
I didn't like either of them at all, I did them each several times due to peer pressure, stupid me.
The really scary thing for me about these drugs is that they aren't regulated in any way so the actual dosage can vary considerably - in other words, there's no way to know what you're getting into, and once you're there you've got this drug inside of you that you can't get rid of, you just have to wait for it to wear off.
To my mind, acid was worse, but both were pretty nasty and scary. If I had it to do over, I would avoid both of them entirely.

Actually, there isn't much evidence that either one of them is particularly harmful in the long term. This may be because, for the vast majority of people, they try them a few times and never try them again. People who continue to use them after a few experiments are a pretty small minority.

Acid is definitely stronger and more overpowering than mushrooms. Therefore, if there are unpleasant experiences, the LSD experience will probably be the most unpleasant. But the effects of either are over in about 12-24 hours in either case.

Possible negative effects of mushrooms:

intense feelings of fear
headache, usually as effects wear off, sometimes beginning the next day, lasting for up to 24 hours
nausea, gas, gastrointestinal discomfort, especially when dry mushrooms eaten raw
mild to severe anxiety
dizziness, confusion
lightheadedness or fainting (in cases of lowered blood pressure)
can precipitate or exacerbate latent or existing mental disorders
working memory disruption (reduced ability to do tasks requiring current remembering and attention)

Possible negative effects of lsd:

anxiety
tension, jaw tension
increased perspiration
nausea
dizziness, confusion
megalomania
over-awareness & over-sensitization to music and noise
paranoia, fear, and panic
unwanted and overwhelming feelings
unwanted life-changing spiritual experiences
flashbacks

Note that all these are POSSIBILITIES and taking either does not mean you will experience them all.

Personally mushrooms have always been harder on my body than acid, especially with nausea. But none of the cons of doing either drug has ever outweighed the pros for me. Both are very enjoyable in the right setting.

And lastly, acid does not make your brain drip blood onto your spine and neither it nor mushrooms stay in your body forever. LSD is quickly metabolized in the body and only a small percent actually makes it to the brain. LSD passes through your urine and is completely out of your body within 24-48 hours.

It depends on the type of mushroom you take, but generally acid has found to be considerably more damaging and supposedly causes the brain stem to leak into the spinal column. Mushrooms on the other hand if you take the wrong one can shut down all of your internal organs. Don't do them. I've personally used acid before. The after affects are not desirable.

most people cannot properly identify mushroom species. there are many that look very similar and yet have great difference in effect. some shrooms can kill you.

lsd on the other hand is a chemical that could easily be polluted with any sort of nasty.

a child of the sixties, i've done some extensive "research" on both these substances. since i can properly identify mushrooms, and since i cannot trust the purity of lsd, IF i did either again, it would be shrooms.
