No. The tiger barbs are more aggressive and will pick on or kill the other fish. You have to decide what type of fish you want to keep: community, semi-aggessive, or aggressive. Your pet store or aquatic store should be able to tell you what fish can go together. While your at it, check on how many fish you can fit in your tank. It's typically 1 inch of fish for each gallon, sometimes less.

It depends on how big your tank is and the number of tiger barbs you keep along with the guppies qand platys. Its true that Tiger barbs are fin-nippers but if you keep them in a number of pairs such as lets say, 5-6 pairs then there is no danger . Also ensure that you keep all your fish well-fed. But the bottom line here is keep plenty of Tiger Barbs and you wont have any problem.

the only way it could possibly work is to have a large school of tiger barbs. hopefully their agression will be focused towards other tiger barbs and not the platies and guppies. you may want to try green tiger barbs (a little less agressive) or checkerbord barbs. Personally I would stay away from the barbs and try danios or some of the different tetra's (serpae or black skirt)

No, barbs are aggressive fin nippers and will harass the guppies and platys to death.

Actually what others may think... yes they are more agressive... but they are more of the calmer semi agressive fish... as long as you keep 3 or more of them... they wont bother your other fish as much... they are a schooling barb as well... they might fin nip your other fish though... its a type of fish you could get away with having community fish with as long as you keep a good size school!
