I want to hook my portable external hard drive to my portable dvd player
so I can play movie files through my dvd player. Is there a cord or adapter device athat can make this possible? I already know about potable dvd players that already have a usb port on them I am trying to avoid buying one.

If the portable DVD player is not setup to access a file from an external device, such as a hard drive, you will not be able to connect one. The DVD player looks for special folders and .VOB files on a DVD disk. Copying the folders and files to a hard disk drive will not work either.

Some netbooks have very little memory and not very good graphics so may not be very good at playing DVDs. Some netbooks use Linux so you will have to find Linux DVD playing software. Some netbooks have small batteries so running an external DVD drive may make the battery go down very fast.
