I haven't heard anything about this at all, nor seen it in the stores.

Oh, and to the woman who asked, it's like a large thin garter belt that goes around the hips and has a clip front and back that you hook the long ends of a non-stick sanitary napkin through. They're not comfortable (especially if you have pubic hair and snag it), and they don't keep a pad in place very well. At all.

The only reason that I can possibly think of is that some women want them because they're tired of ruining their underwear with the glue from the sticky backed napkins. I need to change often, and that stuff builds up in a day. If there's something that takes the glue out in the wash, I don't know what it is, so I have panties set aside for the number of days in my period, and I use them just for napkins.

The only reason I could think of is that thongs don't have enough material to stick a pad to, so you have to attach it somehow! Although that's the silliest thing I can think of - a huge pad under a tiny thong! Believe me, I'm old enough to remember when a sanitary belt was a girl's only choice - you'd wear a belt around your waist, and loop the ends of the pad through them to hold it in place. Half the time, you'd get a horrible wedgy after a few hours. This is taking nostalgia WAY too far!

What are sanitary belts?

Probably because they work better than pads (stay in place, not sticky, etc.) and are thinner and more well fitted than the old ones. (give me tampons any day...)

I have not heard, maybe because of the environment, recycle your pads (by washing them) = less trees cut so better for the environment.
