I think I know what you mean...

How many months can you go straight on your pills skipping your period before you experience side effects?

I've experimented alot with this once I found out we don't have to stop for our period. First thing I did was ask my doctor about it. She informed me I could only do it if my pills were all the same. For example, if you are on the pills that have different dosages throughout the month you cannot do this. Your pills must contain all the same amount of hormones. Check your pill box for this and if you are unsure ask your pharmasist or doctor. Secondly, she told me I cannot go more then 3 months at a time.

BUT...

With me experimenting with it I found I did not want to go more then 2 months at a time. Normally, my period takes about 2 days to come after I stop my pills... going 2 months it takes about 2-4 days after I stop for my period. But I found going 3 months it really messed things up. It would take up to a week or *more* for my period to come once I finished off my last pack (which is scary because once I ran out and got a pregnancy test) and I found the bleeding was VERY unpredictible.

This may be too much info but I will explain the differences I experienced...

On A Normal Period
Day 1 - Light
Day 2 - Heavy
Day 3 - Moderate
Day 4 - Light
Day 5 - Very Light / Icky ending stage
Day 6 - Gone

On A 3 Month Stretch
Day 1 - EXTREMELY Heavy
Day 2 - HEAVY
Day 3 - Barely even there
Day 4 - Moderate
Day 5 - Moderate
Day 6 - Still damn bleeding
Day 7 - Starting to stop

So as you can see on a normal month it's not too bad, but on a 3 month stretch it's ALOT heavier then normal and the worst part about it I found... my period stayed longer.

If you have any questions by all means send me an e-mail from my profile page I'd be happy to talk about this more.

But anyways this is what I found with them.. I always wanted to try 4 months but 1. I was kind of scared to. 2. My doctor said no more then three. and 3. It's kind of a waste of pills & money.

Hope this helped!

As many months as your body allows for. Some women find that they can only go for 3 months at a time while other women find that they can go longer and others are completely unable to skip their periods without experience 'break through bleeding'. Experiment and see. As far as I know and have heard from reliable sources, you will not damage your body doing this. It just might get a little uncomfortable. Find out what works for you.

My Doctor told me it's best to allow yourself to have one every 3 months. So you would take the "active" pills for three consecutive pill packets and then take a week off with the "inactive" pills so that you can have your period.
