Now I know some authors will come here and shamelessly recommend their books. I simply want a list of good books to read that are enticing and enjoyable. I really liked 1984. I am starting the count of monte cristo. Anybody hear about confederacy of dunces? Anyways..just tell me some good books to read.

"Drowned Hopes" by Donald Westlake is a riot. I would love to see a film version made of this epic crime caper; especially if George Carlin plays the villian Tom Jimson. Jimson is a recently released bank robber who needs the help of the hero, John Dortmunder, to recover his stashed loot. The problem is that while he was in prison, the City of New York built a resevoir over the spot.. Can criminal mastermind Dortmunder and his merry crew pull off the job? Can they convince Jimson that dynamite is the wrong solution? You won't believe the outcome.

Every year I rate all the books I've read and here's my top five for this year...

Hardboiled Wonderland and the End of the World- Murakami
Generation X-Douglas Coupland
Slaughterhouse Five-Vonnegut
Unbearable Lightness of Being-Kundera
Songbook-Nick Hornby

My all time favorite though is Alice in Wonderland

Red Bird Just Like this by Earl Jesse Stevens. He is a shameless author that wrote an autobiographical novel that is so enjoyable you'll probably spot your underwear.
