It is a shame that documentary film making seems to be a lost art. There are many films pretending to be documentaries that are merely avenues for the producer to promote their own agenda. Too much of the information is politically slanted, one sided, or just not true. Yet these films get rave reviews mostly by those least qualified to judge the material contents of the film.

Be very careful when you watch any documentary. All producers will have some degree of bias. If the issue is one of importance to you, do your own research to verify the information and if opposing views are not presented in the film be skeptical, surely there are some.

I'm not sure if you would consider it a documentary or simply an educational series but, "Cosmos" (13 episodes, currently running on the Discovery Channel) is excellent. It was originally produced almost 30 years ago but the science is still sound. You will come away with a greater appreciation of life, the world we live in, how incredibly immense the universe is and how insignificant we are in the grand scheme of things. The things you will learn will humble and amaze you. Unlike many documentaries, it is about science and who we are, not about a social cause or political stance.

9/11

It was done by two French brothers who were there making a documentary on the life of a person becoming a Fire Fighter in NYC. They happened to be there when 9/the terrorist attacks happened and its the only known footage of the first plane crashing into the Towers.

Its very sad, very real, true human emotions.

I liked Bowling for Columbine. Whether or not it is one sided or gives some false truths...it definetly lays down some hard facts that cannot and should not be ignored. When are people gonna learn :(
