I've been on birth control for about 4 years (a very low-dose pill) and I often had periods that lasted longer than two weeks. I would bleed lightly and at unpredictable times. It was incredibly annoying and ruined my underwear, but was apparently due to the low hormone dose - I needed slightly more hormones (a higher-dose pill) to encourage a normal period.

I wouldn't worry about it as long as you're bleeding lightly. Just let your gynecologist know on your next visit and s/he'll tell you what's up.

I was so sick of my period that I started Seasonale, the pill where you have only four periods a year. I love it. It's something you might want to consider.

If it is heavy bleeding, you need to see a Dr., this could cause you to be anemic. If you are young and just starting to have cycles it can be normal to have irregular bleeding. If you are middle age then it could be an indication of menopause.

It could be a hormonal imbalance.

See your Gyn.
