I want to wear a scarf over my face and a wool hat but I'm not sure if I will get complaints for covering my face in public after all the recent events. I'm not muslim but still can I cover my face in winter or not?

My aunt felt the same way. She lives in Boston and went to the mall, THE MALL, wearing a simple cashmere scarf over her face. You won't believe this: the police approached her, and they asked her to remove the scarf!!!!! I was outraged even though I wasn't there. My aunt is not Muslim. She is not a terrorist. It was snowing! The police almost confiscated it, but I guess then they realized how ridiculous the whole thing was. THEY EVEN SEARCHED HER SHOPPING BAGS AND PURSE TOO! Even typing this makes me mad! I strongly advise you not to wear a scarf over your face! You may get approached by the police. Just withstand the nippy cold air. Good luck, hope this helps!

Of course you can! Just don't wear a scarf over your face on the London Underground as the Police might mistake you for being a Muslim & shoot first & ask questions later like they did with the Brasilian guy.

In UK there is no law about what you are wearing unless it is indecent! Obviously this does not apply to you. Put on a good barrier cream on your face before going out if it is sensitive. Cover up out of doors, but remove head or face cover to go into shops, banks, covered malls, stations, underground etc... just to avoid arousing suspicion. You will be too hot there anyhow.

I am surprised to read the comments regarding the attitude taken in the US. I thought they were very strong on civil liberties there and to hassle a middle aged lady doing her shopping seems a bit extreme. Having said this, I am a middle aged lady, fair haired and blue eyed and I was searched three times at JFK last time I flew back to UK...and I was not wearing anything on my head.

I love your avatar by the way. I love One Piece! I read it all the time.

I wear clothes like that but I take off my scarf at least whenever I get into stores. I don't want people to think that I'm suspicious in the stores...

I've never got complaints from anyone as long as I'm only dressed up like this outside. I hope this helps.

I wear a scarf over my face in the winter because the cold air aggravates my asthma so you could always say its for that reason. Although I've never had anyone question me about it.

I think its a shame that in America you have to ask if putting a scarf on over your face is ok because it is cold. I think its just fine. I know in some cities/states wearing ski masks or balaclava's is illegal, but the laws say nothing about scarves or just plain cloth wrapping. Just to be safe, you can wear one with bright colors, etc.

Yes you can cover your face when its cold outside.....why would somebody mistake you for a terrorist just becaue you have a scarf over your face in freezing cold weather? Its either cover your face or get sick - personally I'd rather look like a terrorist than get sick.

Yes you may and you are correct that others may mistook you for a Muslim. Unless you have very valid reson otherwise I don't see why you need to cover your face. In any case its your call. So long as your comfortable, go for it!

Yeah, you can use a scarf and a hat... just be sure to take them off when entering buildings, like banks... and don't get the black hat....

if your cold do it. it shouldn't matter what others think about what you have over your face. if your cold I'd say where the scarf. if people complain about it forget them. there's really nothing for them to complain about. if your cold, where a scarf.
