It is the database portion of the Microsoft Office Suite.

It has been around for years and there are many many apps, programs and databases around the world which have been created using it.

File format is usually .mdb

It's a very useful program, you can create databases, front end apps for backend data, link tables and the wizards and templates make it quite easy to use even for a beginner.

The latest version is Access 2007 and can be bought on its own or as part of Office 2007.

Microsoft Access is a small-scale DBMS application. It's actually fairly good for small-scale applications.
