Your new ballet instructor will use the stick as a pointer. The teacher may come across serious but chances are that the students in her class are not afraid of her, they are probably concentrating to do their best. She may use the stick down your back to demonstrate the lines your body needs to follow. You may get poked if one of your body parts is sticking out in the wrong direction. Relax, if the students are sticking with this instructor's class and not quitting, it must be fun. Go for it!

Usually teachers will carry a cane to tap out the beat of the music on the floor. This helps the dancers to hear and feel the tempo so they can learn to dance with the music. She may use the cane to point out problems with the dancers. If a dancer's leg is bent she may touch the back of the knee, if the feet are not pointed, she'll touch the toes, etc. Most dancers respond to well when touched on the muscle they need to tighten up, they give an immediate response and are corrected quickly which improves their technique faster. It's nothing to fear and immature dancers may make a big deal out of it if they don't understand the reasons she uses it. Hope this helps.

Don't know how old you are but you will not do well if you do not want to be there. The stick thingy is for the teacher to keep time in her head, she does not use it on her students. Most teachers don't carry it around with them. If she does use it on her students leave the class and report her to authorities.

the stick should be used to point out corrections and to keep count when there is no music i dont know why students look afraid of it unless the teacher is very strict or if she hits them constantly with it in that case tell someone

You'll find out once you go. She is not allowed to hit you with it. That would be against the law.
