Red Bird Just Like this by Earl Jesse Stevens. Go to Authorhouse.com. It's an autobiographical novel that gives hope to the hopeless, succor to the wounded in body or spirit, imagination exercises to the lame, inspiration for the stymied, and pure hell to politicians and pundits. And the humor is seriously laced with a poignancy that delivers on time.

It depends very much on what you like, and what your interests are! No use recommending a romance, for example, if you enjoy a good thriller!
Anyway, here's my recommendation: BLACK ICE by Matt Dickinson. This is a book that's guaranteed to keep you on the edge of your seat, turning the pages 'cos you HAVE to find out what happens next! A fantastic read!!

Well since it's for Christmas, read Blue Like Jazz. It's not recent, but an excellent Christian read, and I usually hate Christian books. Or contemporary books for that matter.

I also recommend Anything by Mercedes Lackey, if you're into fantasy.

John Grisham - The Innocent Man
Jeffrey Archer - Cat o' Nine Tails
His previous novel, 'False Impression' was also brilliant.

If you haven't read it already, I think you should buy Eragon and Eldest by Christopher Paolini. Although the film was not the best of fantasy adventure films, the books are really really good!!

King Fortis the Brave, Harry Potter and Eragon would all be excellent choices
