A mystery shopper is someone who comes in and acts as a regular customer and sees how the work environment is, how the employees treat the customers and how effectively they do their job. I have experienced a secret shopper several times and I have received perfect scores each time. They usually do it like once a month and there is usually an incentive for the employees such as a small bonus or a little bit of extra money for doing a good job. Basically the company hires them to make sure they have the right employees that will do the best job for the company.

If you are getting emails in regard to hiring mystery shoppers, I would be very cautious about them. Many of them are fraudulent, so beware. They're not all a fraud, but just use caution when responding to any emails that promote or offer jobs. To be on the safe side, I would just delete them without even opening the email. I've gotten them, too, but I just delete them from my 'Inbox'.

From my retail experience, mystery shoppers are people that pretend to be regular customers. They come in to evaluate the employees 'customer service' performance and some are dressed as customers to catch shoplifters.
