As a HID specialist, all HID aftermarket lights are illegal and are clearly marked "for off-road use only". the reason behind this is the DOT say's that no HID's can be put into a stock halogen headlamp assembly, meaning the car must come from the factory with the HID system (Audi,Acura,Mercedes,etc.). If your going to go with a HID kit you can either retrofit your car which cost in the upwards of 500 to 1000 dollars and in some states also puts it in a legal class, or you can go with a 4,300 to 5,000 Kelvin (light temp), which produces a intense diamond white output and most the time cops will not mess with you. Anything higher than 5,000k will put you in a aqua blue class and then a purple tint at between 10,000 to 12,000k. A company I'd recommend if your going into the HID systems are www.hid-lights.com. There a wholesale company in which I use and there systems are unbeatable in prices and are all true plug in play with a one year warranty on there GPthunder and X5 series. I've got the GPThunder 8000k and it's incredible. The only problem on the site is there Kelvin temps are incorrect. The 8000 produces a white light and so on. Hope I was of some help. All aftermarket HID systems are illegal. You can buy them though. Unless your headlights were DESIGNED for HID (i.e. they came from the factory with a Department of Transportation Approved setup, they are illegal. So even the yellowish white ones (4100K) are illegal if they aren't properly installed in a DOT spec headlight. In short, yes, they are illegal. You can still buy them, though. I bought mine from JleviSW - 1.888.JLEVISW. For $275 shipped it was worth it, and I haven't been pulled over yet!

by law headlights must be white in color, tail lights must be red and turn signals must be yellow. its federal law.
its why on old hot rods those purple jews they put in the tail lights to make them seem purple/blue is illegal except for show cars that are halled only.
change them if you want, but expect to be pulled over and ticketed.
