No lectures about the dangers of smoking please. I know the risks. Now, to details...
We moved into our new house in July, & I vowed when we left our old house that I wouldn't smoke in the new one. I got tired of washing walls & furniture, my kids' clothes always stunk, and everything turned yellow.
It's winter, now, and I stand outside in 15 degree weather to have a smoke. I know it's better for my kids, and I smoke a LOT less than I used to, but am I INSANE for doing this, or do other smokers do this too? I know my sister in law does, but does anyone else???

insane? no, smart. Especially with kids around. I don't condone smoking, but I applaud you for being responsible with it

No you are not INSANE for smoking outside your own house. I think you are being a responsible parent to keep the smoke away from the kids. Plus like you said if you smoke in the house it smells and you can never get that stale smoke smell out of a house. It permeates the walls, carpet, ceiling tiles etc. Plus everything that you bring into the house will also smell of smoke, so good job in taking it outside!
Now, since you know the dangers of smoking and you know that it is not good for you, why don't you try and quit for the sake of your children. Let them grow up with a healthy parent, you do want to be around to watch them grow-up right?
Try the nicotine patch!

You ar complately normal . My mom does not want me to smoke in the house so I go outside all of the time. Just last week i sat out side in 7 degree weather. I even respect you that you arent smokin in front of your kids especially if they are young. If you do decide to start to smoke in the house designate a room where the kids do not go often. also open a window or turn on a fan. this will reduce second hand smoke.

I tried to quit for a period of time early in this year and while I wasn't smoking I got rid of the smell and nicotine stains in my house. When I restarted smoking to preserve my sanity, I only allow smoking outside. It also gets very cold here but like you said it reduces the amount you smoke. You gotta really be desperate for nicotine to stand outside in the cold/wind/rain/etc to smoke and we both know that desperate feeling for nicotine.

I only choose to live in places where I can smoke. I don't smoke outside at home and I never will. But what you do is your business. It looks like you could pick one room in your house and smoke in it.

Yes it is crazy to be outside in severe weather to smoke cause you are only making health problems worse. Destinate a place somewhere within the house with air circualation and smoke there but not heavy smoking of course.

not crazy at all if you do it away from non-smokers. I like your caution. Non-smokers but especially those who had once been smokers are often fond of all long-winded health and moralistic lectures which they can churn until you go to sleep. . . .as if smokers have no idea about the health risks!

With all the laws they're passing now, we'll all be smoking outdoors as a "normal" thing to do in ten years or less, if they don't try to outlaw it altogether (like they tried to do in Prohibition).

insane?.....ooh no no no you are actually being really logical. because cigeratte smoke will lower the value of your house considerably. like you said. you know the risk of smoking ands its best not to expose your children to the cig smoke. so stepping outside isn't insane..its smart..i wish more people were like you
