Well, it turns out that it was the father who molested her - and she was being traumatized by it and her agony manifested itself as a spirit. If you watch the DVD, look for one of the alternate endings that explains it much better than the actual ending. So the modern day mother was being haunted by the original victim as a warning that her own daughter was being molested - hence her yelling and chasing the car at the end.

the modern day mother at the beginning of the movie found the letter explaining the hauntings. the father had molested his daughter one night & the girl's innocence left her in the form of an agonized spirit. the spirit haunts her in order to make her remember what her father did. once she remembers, she & her mother realize that justice must be served by punishing the father before the spirit will go away. the mother gives her daughter the poison to give her ailing father. the spirit of the girl appears at the end of the movie to clue the mother in that her daughter is being molested by her ex-husband who had just come to pick up his daughter for a visit. this is why u see her running after the car.

My opinion is that the girls anger from the molesting created something to stop the father but she could not control it so that is why both the daughter and father got battered from her energy. And at the end of the movie I think that was her younger sister growed up and that is why she understood what the ghost apperance meant causing her to run after her daughter in the car.

The father was sexually abuseing the daughter. What I got out of that was it was trying to punish the father for what he did. But the movie was very confusing.

I thought that movie was so stupid. I saw it in theatres, and it was a waste of money in my opinion. I didn`t understand it at all, either.

what I got from it was the dad was sexually abusing the girl, and I think the mother was the one who was getting back at her husband, for what he was doing.
