Lying to any law enforcement officer is a serious offense. At best, if you get caught, you'll get slapped with an obstruction of justice charge and if convicted, get probation... if you're not lucky... well... you might do jail time, depending on the jurisdiction.

Why would you want an innocent person arrested? What goes around comes around. Did you ever see "The Twilight Zone" episode about a stranger that gives you a box with a button? If you push the button someone you don't know will die. You will receive $100,000. The stranger returns the next day and sees that you pushed the button. He gives you a check for $100,000. He takes the box back. You ask, what are you going to do with the box? He will give it to someone you don't know.

You picked a bad one. Email can be traced pretty easily these days. You have to be able to prove where it came from. Depends on your age. If you are just a kid, then probably just get reprimanded. Kids do stupid thing like that. If you are an adult doing stuff like that, it could be serious.

There's not only a criminal case to worry about, the person who lied would face civil liability too.
