Hi Jennifer, from experience I can tell you that a lot of it depends on the employer and what resources they use. MOST employers of value will do a background check but not so involved in your previous employers. Yes, they will probably call the names/numbers that you provide for them. Others, will mail or fax a form and hope they fill it out and return it. But that is less common. You're best bet is to use a contact that can give you the best reference. Good luck to you!!

for an employer to get info on a potential employee they can call the old employer and ask them if you were a good employee. By law all they can say is if they would rehire you or not.

But if the company asks in writing instead of calling, ANYTHING can be sent back as an answer, in detail.

Best thing is to not lie on an application or resume as if that lie is ever found out, even 10 yrs later and your are high up in the company. You will be fired instantly for false documents, seen it happen to big wigs.

Well - it needs to match whatever you have on your resume. People checking employment history can ask for the basics - such as the position you held, and the amount you made. They can even ask if they'd hire you back but depending on the company they may or may not answer that.

They can contact the previous employer and find out the position held. They cannot (legally) find out wjy your employrment ended, your performance levels, the salary you were paid, etc.

YEah, it would show that. Why would you worry about it though?? Did you lie on your resume? One would much rather see a blank resume than a resume with lies!!!.
