I just started learning it, and it's so confusing and frustrating to me to play both the treble and bass clef together. Will I get any better at it? I practice at least an hour to an hour and a half every other day.

Learning to play any musical instrument is an admirable undertaking. Obviously, it's respected and valued in our society because it isn't easy. The physical movement required as well as understanding the notes on the page could be compared to learning to read and communicate new language.

The easiest way to learn these type skills is practice. With lots of practice, your fingers begin to respond to the written music without an extended thought process in between. Think about when you learned to read....at first you had to sound out the letters to understand the words...after much practice, you see the word and understand it without having to sound the whole thing out. The same is true for music, you are trying to remember which note equates to which key...and you are trying to keep count of the time...it can be very confusing and frustrating. Try practicing short pieces (a few bars) at a time, until it becomes easy, then add more. You will find, just like reading, that things become repetitive and easier once you've practiced yourself to a more "automatic" level of understanding.

Good Luck....and practice, practice, practice!!

When you first start out, it can be quite confusing. So many notes, not enough fingers! What helped me when I was first starting, was breaking up the treble clef and bass clef first. Then trying to combine them. On many songs, the bass clef is mostly just rhythm, so it'll be the same thing over and over. The treble clef will usually be the melody. It just takes practice...that's all. Keep up the good work and I'm sure you'll have it down in no time!

I would have difficulty trying to learn, but don't give up. Have fun with it. I am 34 now, and I started taking ballet lessons, when I turned 30. Just like learning an instrument, dance can be difficult to learn, but you could still try and enjoy. Just remember have fun and don't give up.
