I have a crappy computer that I bought for $200.00 that has a Pentium II, I've been upgrading it, and found the Celeron D processor on ebay real cheap...

A Celeron D running at over 2Ghz will considerably kick the *** of any Pentium II, which I believe maxed out around 400Mhz.
There is no way that your current motherboard will support a Celeron D though, and most likely your RAM will not survive the upgrade either (You're probably using PC100 or slower), so you're going to have to find more than just a processor! (Probably case & powersupply as well, those have changed!)
My honest opinion is that you ditch the upgrade path completely, and buy or build yourself a new system. The Celeron D is a decent processor, but the Core 2 Duo is wayyy better now, and I have seen them as low as $200 (for just the processor).

Pentium 11 and Celeron D not not compatible processors.
Although they are both made by Intel, they are very different.
Celeron is slightly cheaper than Pentium CPUs, but they work okay, other than the cache memory on the celeron chip is less than on a Pentium, so the same rated speed processors, the Pentium will run faster.

The most recent ones are. They have benefited from most of the internal improvements that the Pentium IV has but of course they still have half the cache. Look at the clockspeed of the processor the more recent Celeron's should have a faster Ghz than the older Pentium IIIs.

Check the processor speed. If I remember correctly, the Celeron came out around the Pentium IV era, so it is more than likely better. Just in case, check the processor speed. The Pentium II is probably around 200 MHz, while the Celeron is around 1 GHz or more

celeron processors are crap you need to upgrade your motherboard use either pentium processors or amd processors i would keep using the pentium 2 till u can get something better, check out tigerdirect.com they have good deals on motherboard processor combos and that guy above me is right there is no way that celeron processor will fit your motherboard you're talking years of difference in technology

The Celeron D is almost like a P3-P4. It's faster than a PII for sure, but you need to make your motherboard can support it. I really doubt that the Celeron D can be installed on your system, since it's based on the Prescott ( P4) core. You may be able to find a cpu adapter or something like that to make it work.

Celeron D is definitely better... however, the two are so different that I would tend to question whether or not your motherboard would support it. First of all, are the two processors even the same socket?

don't go for Celeron.....its very old processor.
that's why very cheap
recently i bought laptop....in the market all the celeron processors very affordable price....wanted to buy...later got to know its old...
pentium better...than that....but not better than Core Duo or duo 2....
if planning to buy new comp then buy one wit core duo or 2 duo processor...
coz...few years later when new software comes into market, your celeron or pentium processor won;t be able to get the software correctly....
anyway...don't go for celeron........
