The issue is what all the rivers have in common, and all the other answers given are wrong.
This is not a list of the longest rivers in the world, because the Thames is on it, and the Thames is only 215 miles long.
This is not a list of the biggest rivers in terms of amount of water shipped in cubic feet or tons per minute, although the largest three are on the list, again because the Thames is too small.
This is not a list of rivers that flow thorugh capital cities, though that one was a real possibility, but the Missouri flows through the capital of a US State, which is not in the same class, making that non paralell list. Also the Ganges starts below New Delhi, and it's a stretch to consider even the primary tributary to be the river itself if it has a different name.
So what's the connection?
Simply this:
All of these rivers have been considered holy by the people who live near them, or have holy and mysterious sources, or have major holy sites on them related to stories of the river relating to the appreance of holy beings, goddesses, etc. They have been considered to be Goddesses or holy beings and have been or are currently attributed some degree of spiritual awareness. People pray to these rivers, in many cases they have for longer than recorded history.
So that's it. "Holy Rivers, Batman!"
