It's not winter here, but the party I'm going to is going to be air-conditioned and I think I'm going to freeze in there.

It's tacky to wear a scarf or shawl here because it's sunny at this time of the year. What kind of outer clothing can I wear? (eg, jacket, poncho?)

a little black button cardigan
or one of those sweater things that only go around you shoulders and have long sleeves

In England smart ladies wear Pashminas to go to parties or the opera in the warmer months. It is versatile and can be pinned to one shoulder as a fashion accessory and unpinned and draped around shoulders when the ambiance becomes chilly. Lacy or very fine crocheted shawls always look smart. Princess Di wore lightweight jackets and looked fab in them. Ponchos are regarded as teenage or child wear and unsmart. A velvet bolero always looks very chic, but in the end it has to be what you will feel most at ease with and what is fashionable where you live. I lent a gauze embroidered pashmina to my daughter when she went to South Africa on business and she said it had been just right for the functions she attended, and asked to keep it.
A small velvet cape or a gold (since you intend wearing gold shoes according to your other posting) domino would also look smart with your black dress. Good luck, and enjoy the party!

24 hours later. I thought of you whilst in London yesterday. In Covent Garden, I saw some little black boleros with sequins that would have been perfect to go with your little black dress, and wide and long black devore scarves with some gold embroidery which were to die for. Nothing tacky about them. Pity I could not send you one in time.

L'Oreal TrueMatch Foundation is great to cover up all of your skin's imperfections. It's a good price, too, which is always a plus. A gold smokey eye would look elegant and a little sexy with your dress. Put gold on the lid, then use a crease brush to put black in the crease (if you want a more natural look, use a dark brown in the crease). For lips, I'd recommend a red lip. Try and find a good red for you. If you want to look seductive, go with a darker red. If you're going for more of a casual, fun look, look for lighter reds. Hope I helped! :D

hrrrrm, im risking a lot here by offering dress advice to a lady but what the hell....

with out knowing the cut of the dress or your build this is tricky, but id try for a full length black trench coat in either leather (if your young en fearless) or cotten (if your casual chic')

Good leather is never tooo hot en tends to look devestating in a woman of med-slim build over 5ft 10"... cotten is a classic look and also will not leave you passing out from heat stroke.

i think poncho's look ridiculas personaly... you either end up looking like a mexican bandit or a rug salesmen or a 60's refugee.

ps... if its a classy night out (by which i meen opera or a 5 star resturent which knows the correct placing of salad forks etc) id give serious thought to a full length cloak in velvet... the very height of elegance.

Have a great night.

ps... if you want to go with light weight option how about full length (ie to elbow) gloves and a lycra body suit under the little black dress? tights en body suit can allway be removed/added when required and fit into a bag easy enough.

What about a short bolero type jacket that covers your arms and shoulders but doesn't cover the waist and hips. Maybe in a black with decorative embroidery to brighten up the outfit.

Well a lot will depend on the type of dress. But you could try a blazer type jacket, a sweater, one of the
new sweaters that are short and tiny, a fur stole,

How about a short bolero? The link below is just to show a picture, not a suggestion of where to buy. I've never bought from that place and i can't vouch for it.

I think a sweater / jacket would be cute. You know the kind that come down to just below your "chest". They're a knit but short.
