In the older days, Festival and Leedon brought out the pre beatles artists like Johnny O'Keefe and Col Joye.

Later, Alberts included John Paul Young, The EasyBeats and early ACDC. Mushroom was also successful about the same time. They had artistslike Billy Thorpe and Kylie.

Now, Australia is much the same as every where else. There are the main multinationals like Sony/BMG and lots of independant labels set up by individual artists.

Raven is a good label for re-released compilations. It was set up by Glenn A Baker who is a rock historian and former 'Rock Brain of the Universe'. Its like an Australian Charley records. Not all the artists it releases are Australian.

Best kept secret of Australian labels is RAVEN RECORDS. They specialize in compiling reissues of older tunes by big artists. You always get close to 75 minutes of music, detailed liner notes, and remastered original source tapes, for great sound. You can buy Virgin, Sony/Columbia, BMG, Universal, or Warner/Reprise anywhere online.
I found out about Raven thru COLLECTORS CHOICE MUSIC, and have gotten a bunch of their re-issues and have never been disappointed. Their back catalog is huge, too. Happy hunting....
