My parents just moved and I don't have a lot of professional clothes to wear. Are there any jobs out there that give you the uniform to wear so you can throw on and just go to make money? Thanks...preferably non-restaurant related...

Some retail stores have uniforms -like the one I work for. Our store is a local midwest chain - but some Nationwide suggestions I can think of - Best Buy, Home Depot, Menards,Target, some grocery stores, UPS, Fed-Ex, Postal service, military service, and auto shops, city workers, school custodians, medical personel, park districts, also, the actual 'uniform' companies that provide uniforms for those places. Those jobs where uniforms are provided from a leasing company usually involve skilled workers (auto repair people, mechanics) or heavy labor, etc. They provide uniforms because they are extremely messy jobs and the leasing of those uniforms usually includes weekly cleaning.

In the store I work in, I am the person who orders uniforms for our employees. Our company requires employees to BUY their uniform shirts thru a payroll deduction, we have a choice of about 6 styles from basic t's to sweatshirts, polos and a jacket; ranging in price from $4.89 to around $15 (the jackets are about $30). We are required to buy at least 2 shirts and they match with 2. We can buy more if we want and most full-timers do. We wear our own jeans or pants. However, it's not bad; the cheapest t-shirt is less than $5, so for $10 out of your paycheck (usually the 3rd or 4th paycheck)you get 4 shirts. The warehouse and auto shop guys have full, leased uniforms, which include weekly cleaning; because they get covered in oil, dirt and battery acid.

Since we hire ALOT of teenagers, I sometimes hear complaints from the kids who resent having to purchase their uniforms. However, having spent years having to purchase 'professional' clothes for work myself, and also working for other companies that require similar uniforms, (I used to sell Windows for Home Depot) our company has them all beat - cost-wise. Buying uniforms is most often much more cost-effective for the employee, than buying regular clothes to work in, and get messed up while working.

As another suggestion - if you can't find a 'uniform' job, check your area for a local 'resale' clothing store (NOT a thrift shop.Thrift shops are usually stuff given away - Goodwill-type stuff.) Resale is really nice stuff that is sold on consignment - stuff people got too chubby for, or that kids outgrew - and is still really nice. You can get some neat, professional, INEXPENSIVE bargains for work clothes.

Housekeeping in a hotel or hospital. Some factories. They may take $ out of your check for the uniforms though. Try secondhand stores-you can find some nice clothing for not much $.
