They do exist. Of course they are not common in circulation....what would you need to buy that you would pay for with 1000 dollar bills? But, if you want to see one, in Vegas at many of the casinos they have cash on display where there is 500 dollar bills, 1000 dollar bills, 5000 dollar bills, 10,000 dollar bills. If you want to see one, next time you take money out of your band that exceeds 1000 dollars, ask for it in a 1000 dollar bill. You might have to let them know ahead of time because some of the smaller branches won't carry such large bills normally,

Today, the currency of the United States, the U.S. dollar, is printed in bills in denominations of $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $50, and $100.

At one time, however, it also included five larger denominations. There was a $100,000 Gold certificate from 1934. High-denomination currency was prevalent from the very beginning of U.S. Government issue (1861). $500, $1,000, and $5,000 interest bearing notes were issued in 1861, and $10,000 gold certificates arrived in 1865. There are many different designs and types of high-denomination notes.

The high-denomination bills were issued in a small size in 1929, along with the $1 through $100 denominations. Their designs were as follows:

The $500 bill featured a portrait of William McKinley
The $1,000 bill featured a portrait of Grover Cleveland
The $5,000 bill featured a portrait of James Madison
The $10,000 bill featured a portrait of Salmon P. Chase
The $100,000 bill featured a portrait of Woodrow Wilson

Since a 1969 Executive Order signed by President Nixon, the Federal Reseve has asked all banks to turn in any and all US $1,000 notes that come into their branches and system. Thus one cannot ask for and get a US $1,000 Federal Reserve note as these are withdrawn from the currency system, although one is able to acquire and purchase these via the Coin and Currency shops and collector forums for a quite high premium over the face denomination.

Yeah, the US Govt used to have $500, $1000, and higher denominations, but they phased them out by 1969. For example, the $1000 had Grover Cleveland on it.
