One word: TIME!

No one has enough of it! Not to mention the debt. Or the embarrassing possibility someone will give you a present and you will have nothing for them.

Because they want to be sure to get the perfect gift for each person on their list. I know that when I can't think of that special something for a special someone, I tend to stress especially since christmas is so close now with only 4 more shopping days left to get everything. Not only do the thought of gifts tend to stress people out but for those who are cooking the holiday meals, they tend to get stressed because as they are preparing the meal, they realize that they have forgotten something.

Merry Christmas

I don't stress. I find a nice $5 gift and buy a whole bunch for my coworkers - all the same (like a flashlight or something). I give my bosses gift certificates. The rest of my shopping I do around Thanksgiving online and just wrap the items as they arrive. I avoid going to the stores except for stocking stuffers, and I can get all of those at the nearby drug store. I bake a few plates of cookies for the neighbors and I'm done! NO crowds, NO parking problems, NO standing in lines, NO stress!!

I think people get stressed because they believe they have to buy something for everyone and their dog. But I think if you're an adult, then other adults around you will have an understanding that, hey! ...You aren't Donald Trump!

I have a HUGE family and several friends who I could have stressed myself about. But who did I buy gifts for? My mom, my two brothers, my boyfriend. Period. One thoughtful gift for each of them. It's not being stingy. It's being realistic. Another plus: No $1000 credit card debt to start off my new year!

When you involve TOO MUCH buying, it becomes impersonal. That's when it's stressful... when you don't really care because it's an obligation. Can you really buy TRULY thoughtful gifts for 50 people? Probably not. Aunt Gertrude will survive without another basket of bath salts.

i personal think that people stress over holiday shopping b/c of all the people they have to buy for and if they got the right gift for that certain person. I'm like that and my sister and mother are like this too.

Because humans by nature are greedy, selfish beings... (not meant as an insult)... and they put more thought into how much money they can spend and going over and over hinting at people about what they want... and forget the true meaning... we put more effort towards material things that mean practically nothing and will be forgotten by next year... instead of channeling that energy time and effort into the true meaning that should never be forgotten... and that carries you through year to year and blesses us all to be able to do such great things... we should spend half the time thanking our maker and giving our lives to him for his birthday instead of thinking about ourselves... Not that giving is a bad thing... I just see how many have wandered from the true meaning behind it all!

One main part of it is that they say they don't know what to buy and that they insist they don't know anything at all about the person and what their likes and interests are. That info is basic knowledge that you must have if you are in any kind of relationship with that person and that random strangers cannot figure it out if you yourself seriously do not know.

Because they claim to not know what the recipient likes and is into, they put it off as long as they can.

Shopping is not that difficult if you take the time to get know your friends and relatives beforehand. If you really don't know what they like, then you need to reintroduce yourselves and get to know them. I often wonder how much human interaction people really have if they can honestly say they don't know anything at all about the people closest to them.

I'm stressing because I have too many gifts to buy and not enough money. I've already told my bf his gift will have to wait until after Christmas. And my dad passed away on the 7th, I'm not much in the spirit for shopping. I'd rather Christmas just come and go...I dread going home and him not being there.

Crowded stores, rude people fighting for items on the shelves, no parking, long lines, spending way too much when you are already in debt, screaming kids at the stores, ....i am a mother of 2 and believe it or not, even though i wrote all of the above....i LOVE holiday shopping! :)

i guess because there are always so many people shopping at the same time..all the crowded stores..not sure of what to buy for their loved ones..i personally dont like to go to the mall or other stores, i would rather pay for shipping and shop through Amazon or other stores online, that way you dont have to get stressed out and you can usually find whatever you want..

I think it has a lot to do with the apprehention that someone may not like the gift you've chosen. Tis the season of high expectations and those that can't meet that expectation are very prone to depression. Christmas happens to be one of the times of year where domestic abuse peaks.
