In a duo core processor, generally what is the processor speed in Gigahertz?
I have heard that there are two merged 64 bit processors in a duo core processor. So if there are two 3Ghz processors, then how the speed of the two processors are combined in the duo core processor?

It's better known as Core 2 Duo Processor, Based on revolutionary Intel Core micro architecture, the breakthrough Intel Core 2 Duo processor family is designed to provide powerful energy-efficient performance so you can do more at once without slowing down.
An Intel dual-core processor consists of two complete execution cores in one physical processor (right), both running at the same frequency. Both cores share the same packaging and the same interface with the chip set/memory. Overall, an Intel dual-core processor offers a way of delivering more capabilities while balancing energy-efficient performance, and is the first step in the multi-core processor future.
So it is clear now If the speed is 3GHz then both core run at same speed i.e.3GHz and speed is not combined.
This processor is very useful in multitasking environment and multi-threded program execution. Execution is distributed smartly and system performance is increased about 40% more (seems less because they share all other resources like memory, external processing etc.).

there are different speeds, but the current models average between 2.0Ghz to 2.6Ghz.

The speeds aren't combined, they act as two seperate cpu's running at that speed. There is circuitry that determines how the work load will be distributed to each processor.
