I'm wondering, like if you came in after being hit by a car, or having an OD. Do they keep you in your clothes or do they get a nurse to put a gown on when you're knocked out...and then how do they do it if you are heavy and lying down?

if you come into the trauma room-you better hope you don't have your favorite jeans on b/c kiss them goodbye.

i work in trauma icu and in the trauma room in the er and anyone that comes in as a trauma gets all of there clothes cut off with scissors. the main reason for this is b/c we don't know what all of your injuries are and we need to be able to treat and stabilize you as fast as possible.

if you are unconscious and in the normal area of the emergency room-then the nurse will put the gown on for you.

If you have been in a car accident or a traumatic fall they will cut your clothes off and leave you naked with a blanket or sheet over top for awhile and then they will put the gown on for you. Gowns just cover the front and tie in the back so it doesn't matter if the person is heavy or not. If you OD'd they take your clothes off and put the gown on for you. If you are fighting with them they will either give you meds to calm you down or tie your hands and feet to the bed, but they have to justify restraints and its used a lot in OD cases when people are coming off of things and when people are violently drunk.

The first thing thing they do at the hospital is cut and remove all your clothes.Because they don't always know why you are there and they will check all of your body for brusies or wounds and a like.To put gown on you or to remove sheets on bed they will roll you on your side and feed the gown or sheet under you and roll you the other way to work gown or sheet under you.

PS. If you know if your going to OD, or get into car accident .Wear old clothes that you don't want back.LOL

Yeah, they would probably still put you in a gown. It makes it easier to listen to your heart and lungs and check pulses and look for wounds, etc ... To put it on they just roll the person to the side and put one side on at a time then tie it behind your neck. They basically don't close in the back so really all they have to do is put it on your arms and get it a little bit behind you for your privacy. The gown more so just covers your front than anything else.

They put gowns on, usually two staff members work to get your clothes off (behind closed doors). Then the gown is designed to slip onto arms and tie in back. That is why they are open in back.

yes they are the same. the maternity wards I have been in, had regular hospital gowns. They suck though, cause if you don't want your rear hanging out, you have to put one on normal and than another on backwards, so one covers the front and one the back (this is usually the only option cause the units always seem out of the hospital housecoats... they never carry many of those.. same with the pants... almost always 'in laundry... lol. I think people take them)

i think they cut your clothes off of you then they probably put on a gown which wouldn't be too hard to put on you.

If you are unconcious then the last thing they are concerned with is getting a gown on you! Trust me I am an EMT!

They have perfected moving unconscious people. No matter the size, they know how to do it.

I think they use more than one person to do the moving.
