earth is held in space by either magnetism or solar gravity which is it?
i have allways thought it to be magnetism yet my frends insist its
gravtatinal spin created from the sun?

The Earth is held in orbit around the sun by gravity just as the Moon is in the Earth's gravitational field. Both must be moving as a specific rate to stay in that orbit. Too fast and they zing into space. Too slow and the will start to head for a crash.

The short answer is Gravity.

Everything you can see is made up of matter (atoms). All matter attracts other matter.

This force of the attraction (which is known as Gravity) depends on how much matter you have.

The Earth is quite big, so it attracts us quite a lot. We are quite small so we attract each other hardly at all.

You will know that the Earth is spinning and that things tend to fly off from spinning objects. However because of Gravity we are stuck on the Earth.

Both the Earth & the Moon are moving quite fast. But both the Earth & the Moon attract one another due to Gravity.

So the Earth & the Moon orbit one another at a distance where the speed is balanced by Gravity

The same is true with Satellites. Gravity makes them stay in orbit around the Earth (instead of flying off into space).

The Sun is very big. So it attracts the Earth. The Earth is moving quite fast. The Earth is in orbit around the Sun at a distance where the Earths speed is balanced by Gravity.

The Earth is quite small compared to the Sun, however it DOES attract the Sun by Gravity. As a result, the Sun 'wobbles' a bit due to the effect of Earths gravity.

Astromomers have detected this 'wobble' in other stars = and this shows that planets are in orbit around those starts.

Earth is held in it's orbit around the Sun by gravity, as the Moon is held in it's orbit around earth. A planet's magnet field is created by it's spin in it's orbit.

C is the nearest. it could be the exact same because the swap got here about. The solar at present loses mass (E = m c^2) because it emits potential. The "image voltaic wind" also takes mass faraway from the solar and places it outside Earth's orbit, the position it now no longer contributes to our orbital potential. finally, solar itself "pushes" adverse to the Earth, pushing it away (with a stress it extremely is so susceptible, we likely ought to no longer degree it with any device - we may be able to calculate it). there is also tidal recession brought about by technique of the tiny tide that the Earth may reason contained in the solar's sphere. the end result's that over the years, Earth's orbit "climbs" ever so slowly faraway from the solar at some rather small cost. Gravitational luminosity (a.ok.a. gravitational waves) emitted by technique of the Earth at the same time as orbiting the solar (a trifling three hundred Watts or so) is a lot too small to make up for those different consequences. After the swap, the in effortless words very last result's the three hundred W gravitational luminosity, eliminating our orbital potential, so as that we may "spiral" in the route of the centre (at that cost, it may take gazillion years). There may be no more beneficial lack of mass -- in truth, we may assume the black hollow to attain mass slowly as any dirt contained in the picture voltaic gadget ultimately spirals in, and not in any respect some thing comes decrease back out -- no more beneficial image voltaic wind and a lot less solar. Earth may freeze rather immediately, therefore making tides on the earth a lot smaller (rocks and different solids can nevertheless flex less than tidal consequences, yet plenty a lot less), so as that the Moon's recession (4 cm in line with twelve months) may develop into plenty a lot less (millimetres in line with twelve months instead). --- The flux of radiation emitted by technique of a black hollow -- IF (a large if) Hawking is nice -- is rather small. the bigger the black hollow, the smaller the flux. For a image voltaic-mass black hollow, the flux is actual below what the black hollow receives from the history radiation of the universe (2.7 ok radiation), so as that the black hollow keeps to attain potential. The cutoff aspect, the position a black hollow actual loses mass, is a lot less that the mass of Earth: the black hollow may could be plenty below one image voltaic mass earlier you'll could be afflicted about it "dropping mass".
