The egg. Chickens don't just pop out of the ground, and other creatutres don't just morph into them. However, it is more plausible that a creature akin to a chicken laid an egg and the creature that hatched from it was closely enough related to what we know a chicken to be, to in fact be classed as a chicken.

The chicken. In the book of Genesis it says that God created the animals...it does not say that he created eggs and waited for them to hatch. He created the earth and everything on it in 6 days. It takes an egg longer to incubate then 6 days therefore, the chicken had to come first.

Egg is the answer if you believe in evolution(Science). Chicken is the answer if you believe in creation(Theology). It depends on what you believe.
