suffer through the holidays. My boyfriend broke up with me on New Years Eve - after 9 years) and thats the first thing that comes to my mind every new years (that was over 5 years ago). He will move on and possibly understand and appreciate why things must end, but he shouldn't have to associate the pain of ending a marriage with christmas.
BY THE WAY - You shouldn't associate it either. DO yourselves both a favor.
Break-ups are hard for both no matter who was at fault (its usually not just one person)

If the relationship is abusive then leave now.

If you don't have children then leave now.

If you have children then wait. Even if you are 100% certain that you want a divorce sacrifice a month for your children. If you aren't 100% sure then try to make it work. My wife told me a week ago that she wants a divorce and sadly we had to tell the children. Also much of the funds that could have been used for gifts will now be used for an apartment, deposit, furniture, dishes, etc. I don't like the idea that my children may associate divorce with Christmas from now on.

no, it's much better to go ahead and file for a divorce and tell your husband he has to leave. don't say very much, and wait until the tuesday before christmas, which also happens to be the day after his birthday, to tell him that you want him to pack his things and get out before christmas so he doesn't ruin your holiday.

I think it would be worse for him to find out, after the holidays, that you were "lying" to him by pretending to still be in love with him. So even if it sucks to leave him before the holidays, it would be worse to leave him after and go through several weeks of dishonesty with him.

yes, give him a chance! unless you're totally sure! then don't tease him, thats cruel.

maybe you want to reassess why ur leaving him, obviously you care about him and his feelings! or is he abusive, then get out right away!

sorry if i'm being a little harsh...

He has been mean to you so long. You are just taking care of yourself and the kids by walking out now. Just do it!

Yes - you should wait. Wait until after the new year... That way, you can both start "fresh".
