My brother called me with some car issues on his 2002 Explorer. He was driving and suddenly the O/D and 4WD started flashing. It will do so every 10 minutes or so.

He notices no problems while driving until turning or cornering, he notices the shifting acts funny. It seems like it won't go into gear and thumps. He's going to take it to a mechanic, but if anyone could help me give him a heads up what it could be so he isn't going in blind, that would be great.

He should get his vehicle to a Ford dealership as soon as possible. For some reason his 4WD and O/D controls are malfunctioning.

I am pretty sure that is the "Your transmission is having a problem" warning light.. it is computer controlled .. you need to see a Ford dealer shop or transmission shop that can read the codes.
