yes they are as legal as can be few more years and they become a citizen.

Ofcourse you can still stay in the country. Just because you married and got a green card from the person doesn't mean you have to stay in a bad relationship for the fear of losing your status. The government can't put time on love or marriage. so yes especially if the marriage was legit then you have no issues. In general it shouldn't matter at all.
