our doctor said three or four because all the cutting of the uterus weakens it and can be disastrous if it ruptures during pregnancy for you and your baby

From what I've read the norm is 3. And at the third they have extra doctors incase the bleeding is worse than it should be or any porblems arise from being cut in the same location. However, I was talking to a woman a month ago that had 4 c-sections and her doctor told her she has no chance at a vaginal if she were to get pregnant again (which I'm figuring meant another c-section). So it must depend on how comfortable the doctor is.

I am a surgical tech and NO you cannot have as many as you want. It all depends on scar tissue. If you have too much scar tissue it will make it more difficult for the surgeon to make the inscision and it will be harder to get the baby out. Some women can have five some women can only have one or two, it just depends.

To my knowledge, there have been no tests to actually determine a limit.

I would assume that the number of c-sections does limit the number of births.

From my sisters experience, she's had three via c-section. Having that first c-section prevented her from having a vaginal birth going on...

So - at some point the healing possibility of the stomach tissue would probably limit the number of births, as the vagina is incredibly tough and regenerative, whereas the stomach tissues are not so resilient.

You need to talk to your doctor. I have had 2 c-secs and had a home birth with my last baby without any problems.

I know the septuplets were all delevered by c/s, so I'd say you can definatley have 7! ;-)

Seriously though, my mother in law had 4 babies, all by c/s. She and her husband decided for themselves that they had enough children at that point.
