6 men * 2 legs/man = 12 human legs

6 men * 6 bags/man * 6 cats/bag = 216 cats
216 cats * 4 cat legs/cat = 864 cat legs

216 cats * 6 kittens/cat * 4 kitten legs/kitten = 5184 kitten legs

Total = 12 + 864 + 5184 = 6060 legs.

Another way of looking at it: Each bag has 6 cats and 36 kittens (6 per cat) for a total of 42 animals or 168 legs. There are 36 bags so 168*36 = 6048. Add the 12 human legs and you have 6060.

James, you only forgot that each man has 6 bags so there are 36 bags in total.

6*2 + ((6*4)*6 + 6*4)*6 = 1020

six men have 12 legs
each cat has 6 kittens, 6 kittens have 6*4 = 24 legs
there are 6 cats, so the legs of the kittens are 6*24 = 144
one bag has 6 cat and 6 kitten, thus one bag has : 6*4 + 6*6*4 = 168 legs
6 bag have 6 * 168 = 1008 legs
total 12 + 1008 = 1020
