I have one thumb that is stubby in comparison to the other, and I was told it is due to a recessive gene. What is a recessive gene, and in terms of where i got it, are there certain nationalities that are prone to this particular one?

First of all, who told you it was due to a recessive gene? If it was a friend instead of a physician, I would definitely mistrust that position. But to answer your answer, there are two types of genes, dominant and recessive. You inherit a dominant or recessive gene from each of your parents. Two dominant genes means you have a dominant trait, a dominant and a recessive means a dominant trait, and two recessives means a recessive trait. In basic terms, the dominant gene masks the recessive one. As for your fingers, a source down here talks about a mother and son with stubby fingers, but the medical jargon is so excessive, don't even bother. Basically translated from nerd-lish, it means that the hand and finger deformations of a mother and her son that are otherwise healthy may be a genetic disorder.

That means your genes are not healthy. Half of our body has the same size as the other half body.

If other half is different that means you are not HEALTHY!! Your parents might smoke in the past, disease, cancel, or some kind of illness that you adopt to them.
