LINUS: And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid.
And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people.
For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.
And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.

Ignore the very old "pagan derived" stuff. Who cares where we got it from, every tradition came from something.

I think that, as kids, we celebrate Christmas to get gifts.
Christmas was originally a celebration of the birth of Christ. However, over time, this meaning faded. It still has a religious touch to it, but it is now to exchange gifts and love and happiness and have family time together. If only this could be...

Christmas is a Christian holy day (or more commonly known as a holiday) in which the birth of Christ the Savior was born; to give thanks for the Son of God born to the earth so that He may save man from eternal damnation. They called for a mass to celebrate the Christ so that's how it came to be Christmas. Merry Christmas.

This part of the year has been a time to celebrate life since before history. When the weather was the coldest and we gathered food and spirits to prove our prosperity and partied hard to forget our fear and celebrate our love of being alive with each other.

Christ is very OK
So is Buddha
So is Lao Tsu
So is Socrates
and many unknown others.

Just celebrate it as Christ's birthday, I don't know everything, but I think that Christ's Love is and was very real.

With love,
Jonnie

That is a very Good question. Many people celebrate christmas because they love to party : it has become a cultural thing for them. I celebrate christmas because I love Jesus. In addition, celebrating christmas especially in my church, serve as an avenue to invite others to come hear the word of God, to be cleansed from sin and be empowered on how to remain sinless and partake of God`s blessings for eternity.

I live in a small town in Louisiana and am proud to say that our children were allowed to sing Happy Birthday Jesus during the Christmas program at their public school yesterday. I am so blessed to know my children wont grow up having to ask such ignorant questions.
