Although this isn't the only time this has happened, recently we stored chili in Ziplock containers ( 8oz. bowls) and well the inevitable orange red ring has appeared after one use. As mentioned this has happened before, but my tolerance for it has passed. They recieve plenty of soaking immediately after use.
What am I to do about these stains?
Vinegar, lemon, live with it?
Probably the latter, which I am prepared to do, but any suggestions/ gripes are welcome.

Bleach hasn't cut it yet, and apparently I should think about only using glass containers. yikes.

Like you, I have stored chili, spaghetti sauce & the like in plastic containers and have the left over stains you refer to. The only thing I can suggest is possibly Greased Lightening. Sometimes it will work for me, sometimes it doesn't - seems to depend on how hot the food was when it went into the storage container.
You might even try leaving it overnight with 50-50 clorox & water, then the next day spraying it really good with Greased Lightening.
The stains won't hurt anything if you wash the container so if none of the suggestions you receive work, just keep using them.
Or another suggestion, buy the glad containers, they're relatively inexpensive so if one becomes terribly stained, just toss it.
I prefer to store things in sealable plastic - seems to stay fresher longer.
Good luck!

Washing the dishes will help, yet your bins would be stained previous restore. to evade this, spray your bowls or bins with a no stick cooking spray previously each and every use to maintain your plastic bins from getting stained from purple sauces.as properly, one ought to in no way place a tomato based product interior the microwave if one is utilising a plastic field. by using fact the plastic is so pourous, the tomato gets embedded interior the pores. These stains are permanent. Nothing will remove them, as they are now part of the plastic, which has been modified on a molecular level.
This change is caused by the high temperatures experienced in isolated areas on the perimeters of containers used to heat or re-heat food in a microwave oven. The worst part is not the tomato sauce becoming part of the container, but the plastic container becoming part of the food!
There are ongoing studies on the effects of chemicals that mimic estrogen, which are found in most plastic packaging and plastic containers. Researchers are currently trying to draw the link between this, increased in infertility in men, and increased breast cancer in women, caused by these xenoestrogens. Yikes!
Not to fear monger, but it might be best to err on the side of caution by tossing those plastic containers and only use glass or ceramic dishes in the microwave.

Wash them first, then spray FABULOUS household spray and leave it sit for a while. This is also good for your blender counter with the red chili spots. And is wonderful for your stove grease, grime, etc. With this you won't need any other cleaner. (By the way this does contain bleach)

You can bleach them or they make a cleaner for plastic that you put in and let soak a few minutes then wash. I can't remember the name of it but you can buy it at wal-mart, k-mart, ace, cvs,ect... Just ask an employee for cleaning supplies (Kitchen).
