What do I do to stop the problem

Your keyboard is most likely wearing out you can get a new one at like target or wal mart for about 10 bucks

You should check the indicator lights on your keyboard. If one of them is lit up, you could have "Caps Lock" turned on. It is along the far left hand column between tab and shift.

Check your keyboard if the shift key or caplocks broken (like once you pressed the button, it never pop up again).
or you keep pressing your caps lock key and two shift keys several times and try again.
don't ask me why, sometimes i solve this problem like this...

I have that happen from time to time when instant messaging. Do you also have an HP Pavilion?
