About one month ago, I went running and after I was done, I had extreme pains going through both of my knees. I run frequently and have never had this problem before. After I felt this intense pain, I took it easy for a day or two. But my knees were swollen, and every time I got up from sitting or sat down, I felt very sharp pains in my knee. After about a week of this, the pain slowly went away. Now after a month a dont feel much pain at all. but i still feel the popping and when i put my hand on my knee and bend it, i feel the popping. is this normal. i bought a knee brace but when i wear it, it tends to make my knee hurt worse. is that normal? the pain is not noticeable much but every once in awhile i get pain. is this just part of the healing process or could it be worse even if there is hardly any pain, even with the popping and knee brace issues that i mentioned?

i have had no prior injuries to my knees at all, and i have run track for 4 years. i just didnt know that since the pain is mostly gone except for a few pains a day, and the popping is till there if there could still be damage.

You should visit a doctor. I have been having problems with my knees for years (popping and swelling) and trust me a doctor really helps. Its better to be safe than sorry, and if you wait too long you may make it worst.

Gee, I hope someone can help you. I have been going through the same thing for about 6 weeks now, I have difficulty getting up and a great deal of pain until the knees pop.

The brace did no good, when I can I elevate and apply heat, this seems to help, I went through all of the OTC pain killers - but they did no good at all.

I still have pain when going up hills or when I hyperextend the knee (uneven surface).

I have not started working out again, though I want to, as soon as I try to get up to my normal activity level, the next day the pain is up.

You need to see a Orthopedic Doctor. Have you had an injury prior to this incident, that is an important factor, since Arthritis could have set in. I was just walking and my left knee totally collapsed, I had to have knee replacement surgery. Don't take this lightly, take care of yourself. Good Luck.

You may have some cartilage debris that is floating around in the fluid in your knee. See an orthapedic doctor and have it x-rayed. Could be that you need an arthroscopy to "clean out" the debris. Or it could be a meniscus tear.
