Thank the giver and hand them to the Salvation Army. There has to be a use for even the most unwanted gift. Maybe the fur coat is unwanted as it was not the colour you desired. Maybe the Volkswagen was unwanted as you wanted a Ferrari. See what I mean.

There are different aspects to this question:
1. You do not like the gift
2. You do not want to receive the gift because you think that it is inappropriate to receive it from that particular giver.
You do not like the gift:
This is easy. Refer http://www.readersdigest.com.au/content/31400
You do not want to receive the gift:
This is a tricky situation and would require an analysis of the specific situation.

Someone took out the time and effort to get you something that they though you would want. Smile and say thankyou.
Or just take it back for something else because then the money will be spent on something that you actually want.
But don't regift, that's tacky.

it depends on who gave them to u? if they were given to u by your family it should mean it was thought out alot by that person that gave it to you and also if it was given to u by a friend it would really depend on what it was and if u could ask the person where they got it and if they would mind if u traded it for something else. i know personally it it was for me from my mom or dad i could never give it up

if you know of a needy family, you could wrap it and give it to them. or return it and buy them something else if you think its something they may need. that would be sooo nice.
