Richmond and Richmond Park, Wimbledon Common, Hampstead Heath, Highgate Village, Eltham Palace, Soho and all the back-streets in the West End and City + Mayfair and Belgravia - just go for a walk. Most of the Thames now has paths on either side. For a really unusual walk go from Greenwich alongside the Thames to the Millennium Dome (North Greenwich). Battersea Park. Just stay away from the well known tourist sights!

Visit the Markets ouside of central London such as Brixton (end of the Victoria underground line), they can be a bit shady but they are a great experience, if you leave Zone 1 on the transport for london network and head out towards Greater London, you'll find some great place such as Bushey Park (Zone 6), Wimbledon Common. Anywhere worth seeing in the centre is always packed with tourists.

Hampstead Heath is wonderful, but also check out Highgate Wood and Queen's Wood. There's also Highgate Cemetery (if you like that kind of thing) which is really interesting and a wildlife reserve in it's own right as well as having some great funeral statuary.
