I've been working my butt off with my stage crew for the past two years. I'm way more than meeting the requirements to be inducted into our honor society, and my induction is this spring. I have been working just as hard as all of the other veterans, and all of my skills have grown so much even in this past year. I'm properties manager and I've taken over a lot of the artistic design, and I'm head foam artist, but it seems like to the other crew members the only thing this means is that they can abuse me. I so desperately wanted either the stage manager or the lighting technician jobs that are opening up in June, but they already selected another girl to be stage manager not even halfway through her first show with us, and they selected this kid to do lights that hasn't even committed to being with us for a full show yet! I can't even get the respect from the other crew members that they give to each other, and I can't figure out why. What would you do?

The glass ceiling is never real. You need to work smart as well as hard.
All of the above are very specific skills & they might just be fitting specific skill-sets to specific jobs - rather than actively discriminating against you.

All related to stage-work - The stage manager may need to have good exposure to ALL of the above skills. From what you write above you are not doing too badly, but you may have some more distance to go.

Please discuss your INTENT with yr supervisors & work together with them to find out a clear progress path to the positions you seek. The feedback will be helpful as there is always a gap between an individual's assesment of their skills - and how other percieve the same.

Re yr interactions with yr colleagues -- This is a real team-work business & you are obviously not getting along like fire. Please look within yr own personality & find ways to increase interaction with yr colleagues without the thought of the glass ceiling bothering you.
You need to be friendly go-getter, not someone who is the wet mop for the dirty jobs , but also not a "disgruntled" , "aloof" person.

Listen, you need to find your place in the company and be noticed. Don't just do hard work for the sake of helping, but also make sure that your effort is noticed. Make your face seen. Show your leadership and personality. Unless you make yourself stick out, your just another backstage techie. If your efforts don't work, explore other options. Not only are there other ways to use your talents like in art, engineering, etc, but there are also so many other theater groups. Most cities have at least several. You will realize that each director is completely different and they bond with different kids.

Don't lose hope, either step out and get noticed, or seek other oppurtunities. There are many. Don't waste your time doing grunt work and letting others take you for granted. If you let them, everyone will take advantage of you.

The first thing to do would be take a look at yourself. Do you respect yourself. You seem to be taking on a lot, if you let the crew run over you they will. You may need to stand up for yourself. I've heard this same scenario several times from several people, including myself. The common link between all of our situations was that we were very meek, and passive. We didn't make ourselves know. Make it known that you want want one of these positions and stand up for yourself. Good luck and hang in there. I'm sure it will all work out.

I actually have a troublesome time believing which you're no longer aligned with a political social gathering.. when you consider which you're repeating all of the common liberal lies. "Republicans refuse to compromise." No, they have made many compromises. DEMOCRATS refuse to go an inch in direction of a fiscally in charge spending plan. Obama has threatened to veto any fiscally in charge plan and has made threats to quit social protection money if he does not get his way. it particularly is something liberals particularly have a great type of hardship getting.. compromise does not advise getting each thing you opt on. And, on the same time as we are speaking approximately previous debt ceilings... why are not you citing Obama's opposition to elevating it in the previous? on the same time as Bush replaced into in place of work Obama pronounced that elevating the debt ceiling weakens us and replaced into a demonstration of failed management. Why bypass over that area? and finally, Clinton in no way had a balanced funds.. much less a funds surplus. Federal debt larger each 3 hundred and sixty 5 days he replaced into in place of work, and larger on the same fee it have been increasing at for years. We looted the social protection believe fund to conceal funds shortages.. we in no way balanced the fee variety.
