mostly as a poster or ad picture asking people to buy more war bonds to help fund the war.
also was used to try to get kids to help recycle needed things like metals and even paper.....lost alot of the 40's comicbooks due to this.

4fanactic has the right answer as far as the real world is concerned, with everyone from Bugs Bunny to Bob Hope pitching in to help with morale and war drives.
But in the comic books, none of the super-heroes could get any where near Axis terrority or else they would become thralls of Hitler, for he possessed something called "the Spear of Destiny", which would have brought them under his control.
It was up to the regular non-powered human beings to win the war on the front lines, according to writer Roy Thomas during his run on DC Comics' All Star Squadron.
