Natural birth is better because the healing time is less than that of a c-section. I would go with natural birth unless the doctor believes there is a good reason for a c-section.

If the doctor is recommending C-section, I would listen! However, you probably have the option of seeing how the labour goes, and opting for a C-section if the baby is in distress. I also had a C-section after 8 hours of labour. I would have no hesitations on chosing a c-section the next time around.
There are some risks of having a natural birth after a previous c-section. You should really discuss the risks with your doctor before deciding one way or the other.

Maybe the Dr. is suggesting another C-Section because the time between the 2 pregnancies is less than 24 months, that's why they usually recommend a c-section the second time around. How long ago did she have the first c-section done?
Good luck and God bless!

Generally if you have already had one c-section, natural child birth can be risky because there is a scar on the uterine wall, that isnt as flexible as the rest so it can tear during contractions and cause hemorraging and possible infection later. I would listen to her doc and ask for reasons why a c-section is recommended. If you think the reason is trivial or unnecessary, say so and ask for reasons why not a natural birth.

If vaginally is going to cause problems for your wife than listen to the doctor. Personally I'm very glad I got the chance to have natural birth, I believe it to be something so amazing that every woman should be able to experience. Unfortunate for your wife if the doc says c-section, unless you get a second opinion, then it's c-section.

Just do what your wife said, perhaps C-section is tough during recuperation at home lots of pain even with painkiller like motrin etc.
Your wife can chose what she wants especially if she didn't have any complication on her pregnancy. And having a 12hours labor on your first baby is normal some patient experience 24hours or more.
So if the pregnancy is normal without complication, go ahead with the natural birth delivery...Good luck!

If your doctor thinks you should do a c section then there is probably a good reason behind it. I understand you wifes reservations because c section scares the crap out of me (I'm 30 weeks w/ #3) but the baby's health and your wifes needs to come before her fears or wants.

I would never choose a c-section, but if the doctor says c-section, then listen to your doctor or get a second opinion.

Whoa, the docs have done terrible things to childbirth, haven't they. What a disaster. There are many successful v-backs. The number of Cs is skyrocketing in America and it has nothing to do with good medical practice.
I'd encourage finding a really excellent, experienced midwife and having a long chat with her.
