While I agree that there should be safeguards in place for age-appropriate content to be viewed by people under 18, 15, 13 etc. What I really feel strongly about is parental involvement when it comes to kids and the internet. My kids aren't allowed most places, to prevent them from going there, I have parental controls in place on the computer that blocks them completely from entering a web address.
Its password protected, so they can't get in there and change the password and take out a certain site they want to go to.
Its the parents responisibilty to police their children. Not someone else's.
When someone signs up for a Yahoo! ID, they are asked to put in their date of birth. If they are under 13 years of age, they are asked to go get their parents and their parents are asked to enter a credit card to verify that it is okay with them that their child is creating a Yahoo! account. Of course kids can lie, and they do, so that is the reason why it is totally and completely up to the parents to know what their kids are doing online. To know who they are talking to, what sites they are going to and what they're doing.
No one wants their children to end up becoming a statistic in regards to online predators, the best way to prevent that....is know what your kids are doing online.

Should there be? Possibly - but how would you implement the age limit and how would you police it?
What is the different about asking here and go to your neighbour and ask the same question? Same question, same source of unprofessional and usually uninformed opinions. We all do it. So, asking here is no different.
Also - even if you COULD ban kids, that won't stop adults from asking the kinds of questions you feel not appropriate. People simply have to realise that this is NOT a professional help site and what they do with the answer they get is THEIR OWN responsibility.
As for kids... say, when they ask for help with their homework - and then found out after handing it in that it is not correct, they will soon learn that this is NOT a reliable site to come for their homework answer.

I think not. People turn to Yahoo Answers in hope of getting appropriate answers to their questions and "people" includes children too. Yahoo Answers is the best place where one can find the best, the most intelligent and also the dumbest of questions and answers ever asked and given. If a child posts a question, it is always a less-matured one, limited to the little knowledge inside its mind. And all of us, may be even u, answer to the point and not babble abt all unconcerned things. So the chances of misguidance is very very less. On the other hand, I agree with your view of seeking help from known people coz this might turn nasty. But all of them have somebody who keeps an eye on them everyday and notices anything out of place (this happens usually). So, there are 97 chances out of 100 that their problems are given the solutions at home before they turn to Answers. If this happens, it might not matter that they are asking strangers. But Answers is the place where children get to know the world out there and come in contact with different people and get ready for their impending interaction with the world. So, setting up an age limit might hinder this, according to me...... :-)

I agree that they come to find answers and guidance but who are we to judge stupidity? Maybe the answer from a stranger is what it takes for them to go get "real" help.
If they seem to be asking something that I think is just to get people going, I just don't answer
Maybe Yahoo should have a symbol beside the names of users under a certain age

Well, although there are some interesting people who asks questions and give answers, they have a right to be here to as long as they do not offend anyone based upon legal laws.
I do understand you, though, there are some really interesting people asking questions about thinking they are pregnant, or does he or she like me, or things like that. It gets old and I started overlooking those questions and moved on to more mature ones.

I do not think that there is any way to really enforce an age limit, maybe different age groups could be featured just like the categories are though

sad, but most "kids" on this site do not have parents that have a good enough job to afford medical insurance and sometimes it takes a stranger to make sense...if all of your "friends" are giving advice, it's hard to believe until it is given by a neutral party.

I agree however, even grown people turn to this for medical advice for themselves and their pets. I think that It's fine to seek people's opinions but people need to make sure that they are consulting professionals as well.

I wish everyone on here would realize that every time we answer one of these questions, we prove the point of the asker.....
I don't think that the site needs to limit that, I think the parents should take care of that.
