I know there are many movies out there about cloning a human being, and a lot of people are against it. I'm a young dude and unfortunately, I have a chronic disease. I don't know how long I can live. Everyday, I think about my life expectancy. Any country will allow cloning a human being, so I can clone myself for an organ?

Wow, those are some pretty harsh answers I'm reading. I hope your disease is not too debilitating or painful. I usually avoid answering questions like this because as a molecular geneticist I get really tired of getting in to discussions with people that don't have the science background to "get it".... But I can't resist putting in my opinion. Why clone your self? Why not set your sights on cloning an organ or other tissue that you need using stem cells? My personal belief is that continued research with stem cells is the realistic way to go. Pluripotent stems cells can be manipulated to grow into just about anything you need. Now we need people to really understand stem cell research and get rid of the political road blocks that hinder it. I believe that as people begin to understand how many diseases can be cured by stem cells, they will start to support it. People need to loose their fear of human clones, it just isn't going to happen. Too many reasons to list here why it is totally impractical and stupid (that's another discussion). ........ And to the idea that the world is overcrowded, of course it is but why don't we start with birth control rather than rushing our old folks into early permanent retirement! Good luck to you.

I have to say that if you allow cloning then what happens to population control. Do you realize how many people are on this planet and if we help them live longer then we destroy the planet even faster. Disease is way to control the population and that is why they take so long in finding cures for things. They will never allow a cure for all cancers to come about because a lot people die of some form of cancer. If we wait till they all die of old age we will over crowd the planet and its resources.

Yes this is a question of morals and values. I read about the dog that go cloned. I really think cloning would be great if the cloned person did not have a brain.

no sorry. it's illegal currently and has been debated for this very reason- to cure people like you. But think about it this way- you'd be sacrificing your clone for your life....but that's still killing something (you, no less). Go to a doctor to see how long you have to live or if there's a cure or any pills you can take to increase you life expectancy. Good luck and may you live a long life!

Firstly, I'm very sorry to hear that. But your theory (that is exactly like that in the movie, The Island) would not work. a) it is illegal everywhere b) you would have to clone your entire body, BEFORE you get sick, so that you clone doesn't get sick. And the clone would have to live a healthy life to keep healthy. I'm very sorry but it doesn't work.
God Bless

Just pull a Ted Williams and have your body frozen when you die so you can have plenty of DNA for scientists to play with when they have the technique perfected. I've been thinking that it would be cool to donate my body to science to see if they can fix me up after I'm dead. I figure that I'd have a better chance in a science lab than in the ground.
