They have done a lot and have a very good team. Just assume most of the team stays healthy. A world series appearance would be nice but it will probably not happen. A play off appearance could happen. If you look at the White sox, they will have no better team. They might be worse because they traded away a 17 game winner. Cubs should be better than the white sox. I personally hate the cardinals but you can't count them out. The astros might or might not be competition same as the reds. Milwakee hasn't done much to but still can't count them out i guess. Pirates, well, they have gonzalez to trade and could get a solid player in return. I just believe the cubs have a very high chance if they are healthy. it's just and opinion.

Dude, they are the Cubbies. They haven't won anything in almost a century. Something will happen and they'll end up under .500.

I personally hate the Cubs (any team that blames their losing on "curses" and goats and not on their own performance doesn't deserve much respect), but I have to tip my hat to their management (for once) after getting Pinella to coach, securing Derrek Lee, signing Soriano, DeRosa and Lilly. However, it's so tough to say how Prior and Wood will be when they're healthy. Will Wade Miller come back strong? They just gave Jason Marquis a $21 million contract...which I believe they will regret big time down the road. Maybe not. Maybe this will be a wake-up call for Marquis. But he has been a head case for the Cardinals.

Carlos Zambrano is obviously a Cy Young candidate-type pitcher, that will be important for your staff. The bullpen is the biggest question right now. Well, and also putting Soriano in center field, that isn't an easy position to just pick up. Sure, he helps offensively but will he be able to play a good CF?

Right now, I'd say the NL Central will be a very competitive division between the Cardinals, Cubs, Reds and Astros. I definitely don't think anyone can count Cincinnati out with their talent, Houston will find a way to contend and the Cardinals are the best managed team in baseball with still a big amount of talent, whether they lose Jeff Suppan or not. Edmonds is back for two more years I believe, Pujols of course, Rolen, Eckstein, Molina, Chris Duncan is gonna be an amazing power hitter. It will depend on the pitching for St. Louis.

I don't think you can call the Cubs the absolute favorite in the NL Central for '07 but I think lots of writers will pick them first. As some will pick the Cardinals and Reds.

I'd like to see the Cardinals and Cubs finally meet in the postseason. That would be great for baseball.

Honestly, even though the Cubbies spent a lot of money this off-season and seemed to improve their overall offense, there is still a big "if" surrounding their season. If they stay healthy, if the starters not named Zambrano pitch like they should, if the star players perform like they should, then yes, the Cubbies will have a chance. But then again, the Cubs are the Cubs. They always seem to fall flat in the second half.

Funny how no one, besides the poster of the question said anything about the Astros and everyone still thinks the Cards are going to run away with it. I've got news for the Crud fans, 2007 isn't going to be a repeat of last year. They barely squeaked in and besides their gutsy performance against the Mutts, their postseason was all but boring. The worst part about it, they have done absolutely nothing in the off-season to keep or make their team better. The Cubs and Astros have taken great strides in either retaining their star talent or by adding to their rosters. I think you'll see these two teams battling it out down the stretch, as long as both teams stay healthy.

I don't care who the Cubs sign in the off-season, they can't go from the cellar, 30 games below .500, to the favorite of the division without playing a single game, but keep wishing.
BTW, the White Sox still have a better starting rotation than the Cubs which is the single most important part of a team. Sox are still better.

With the upgrades that the Cubs have made along with adding the very witty Lou Piniella as manager, the Cubs should have a solid season. Voiding any multiple long term key injuries look for the Cubs to make the playoffs. The key for them is to get off to a good start.

ok i'm truthfully uninterested in all this Cardinals possessing the league communicate. So Berkman is going to have a season like that lower back *(doubt it), and Beltran is gonna by surprise rebound? wood worker and Wainwright are stable, yet as for the others of their rotation its purely an user-friendly rotation, yet i could say Garcia is above user-friendly too yet no longer great and that they've an user-friendly to above user-friendly bullpen. Their line up is a team of fellows who you honeslty do purely no longer understand how they would be. such fairly some iggnorant Cardinals followers wo jumped on the bandwagon think of Freese is a few form of God whos the subsequent Ty cobb whilst he's unquestionably purely an user-friendly participant! holliday isn't as stable anymore, furcal is starting to be older, and something are user-friendly adult adult males who purely all jointly had a stable season. the Brewers are an identical team i think of yet fairly worse. authentic, Pirates have a destiny yet i do no longer think of it particularly is their year. possibly 2013 or 2014. the team i think of is gonna come out on good is the Reds because they have a quite stable lineup and an user-friendly team. The Cardinals are quite stable are not getting me incorrect, yet they are not remarkable I mean provide me a smash. And yet another subject, do no longer provide me that Cardinals followers are the superb in baseball by using fact they are purely like each and every of something. Btw you certainly mentioned all people who dissagrees is properly-known with no longer something approximately baseball. enable me guess, die frustrating fan because 2008? superb bullpen interior the pastime? extremely?

You bet the cubs will win the NL central. Because they are getting better players and a better coach so in my mind they will win the NL central and the World Series.

Well, they might if they stay healthy. You have to wait until the season actually begins, we have to see this team's chemistry and how they gel together. You are assuming because they got some good players, they will win the NL Central. We have to actually wait until the season begins, Anything can happen. Oh, by the way bake me some cookies.
