So the way to build up your resources is by using your villagers. They pretty much do everything. If i remember correctly there's like 4 resources? Wood, Food, Rock and Gold? anyways what you do is click on a villager and tell it to go chop wood, mine or gather food. Just find where you could get these resources such as for wood you would go to trees and rock you would go to a pile of rocks. Food can be gather in variety of ways. You can kill animals and have the villagers collect food, you can have them pick food off of bushes or you can have them farm land. If there is water nearby your boats can fish. Hope that helps
